According to the American Stroke Association, Stroke is the 4th leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability in the United States. There is a person suffering from a stroke approximately every 45 seconds and a death occurs from a stroke every 3 to 4 minutes. What is a Stroke? A stroke happens when a blood vessel that carries oxygen and nutrients to the brain is either blocked by a clot or bursts. This will cause a lack of oxygen and blood flow, causing that part of the brain to "die".

However, there are some risk factors that can be controlled through lifestyle changes, such as: High blood pressure, High Cholesterol, Diabetes, Obesity, and Alcohol/Tobacco use. Age, race and family history also play a role in a person's chances of suffering from a stroke.
Effects of Stroke: The effects of a stroke can vary greatly, depending on the severity of the stroke and the part of the brain that was affected. Commons effects are: Paralysis, Weakness, Vision Disturbances, Problems using language, and Cognitive problems.
